Abstract

Background : Dog bites are common presenting complaints in pediatric and adult emergency rooms. Periocular and adnexal dog bite injuries can present as superficial abrasions, canthal avulsions, eyelid lacerations, canalicular tears, trauma to extraocular muscles, and even orbital fractures.
Case Summary : A 2 year old female child presented to the casualty with a history of dog bite on her face. She had sustained punctured wounds below her right lower eyelid and left cheek. She was taken up for primary suturing of the facial wounds.The child was lost for follow up and presented to the OPD 8 weeks later. She showed healed facial wounds but with an associated right chronic dacrocystitis and marked telecanthus. A CT Dacrocystography revealed a soft tissue swelling around the right medial canthus. She was taken up for right dacrocystorhinostomy with bicanalicular lacrimal intubation along with medial canthal ligament reattachment.
