Abstract
Aim : To study the ocular associations of acne vulgaris in patients presenting to a tertiary care center in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Materials and methods: This is a prospective observational study of 12 months duration. A total of 76 patients were analysed. Acne vulgaris was graded with Pillusbury scale. Clinical history, slit lamp examination, schirmers test, TBUT and fluorescein staining of cornea were done. Meibography was done using autorefractometer.
Results. Acne vulgaris was majorly seen in the age group of 20-25 years with female preponderance. 55.26% patients had burning eye with watering as chief presenting complaint. 40.79 % patients had associated meibomitis. 80.26% presented with lustreless cornea. Average tear breakup time was 7.09 secs. Average schirmers test was 10.54mm. Meibomian gland loss was noted in 34.21% patients,
Conclusion: Our study shows that patients with acne vulgaris may have a predisposition to meibomian gland dysfunction and tear film instability.
