Abstract
Purpose:To determine the surgical outcome of DCT in tertiary care centre of Jharkhand.
Methods:36 patients who had undergone DCT were included in this study. Data like patient demographics, symptoms before and after surgery, and indication,complications noted and follow up done at 1 month and 3 month postoperatively
Study design: Hospital-based prospective study
Study Duration:1 year(May 22-May23)
Results:36 DCT surgeries were performed, of which 22 were females (61.11%) and 14 were males (38.88%). In 17 patients right side was involved (47.22%) and left side was involved in 19 patients (52.77%).Mean age of presentation was 58±6 years old. Chronic dacryocystitis was the most common indication for DCT.None of the 36 patients required secondary hospital admission.Overall surgical outcome was good with no postoperative complaints at the end of 3 months follow-up in 80% cases.
Conclusion: Main indication of Dacryocystectomy was chronic dacryocystitis and its surgical outcome was good.
