Abstract
STUDYDESIGN-Observational prospective hospital based.AIM-To analyse the microbiological etiology of chronic dacryocystits at teriary level hospital.METHOD-Specimens from 100 patients were taken&was inoculated.All the data was analysed&compiled to make an analysis of managementRESULTS- Of the 100 patients 36 were males&64 females.200 eyes were considered&on syringing 110 had regurgitation of pus,37 had regurgitation of clear fluid&53 ducts were patent. Of the 110 eyes with infection positive culture was obtained from 85 (77.3%) eyes&no growth was observed in 25 (22.7%) eyes. A total of 92 (83.6%) eyes underwent DCT&18 (16.4%) eyes underwent DCR. The patients were followed up&found to be asymptomatic. CONCLUSION:Incidence of chronic dacryocystitis was found more in females,the mean age of presentation was 60.5+13.2 yrs.The most common microorganism isolated was Coagulase -ve Staphylococcus.Gram+veorganisms showed sensitivity to GatifloxacinMoxifloxacin and Gram-veorganisms to Cefazolin.
