Abstract
Study design:case report
Purpose:Analysis of clinical presentation & familial patterns of PPS
Methods: 9 yr old with chronic intermittent ataxia was referred for fundoscopy.Visual acuity, refraction, anterior segment & dilated fundus examination was done.Investigations including fundus photo and OCT performed. The patient's elder sister, diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia also underwent ocular examination.
Results:BCVA of the siblings was 6/6 & normal anterior segment. Fundus revealed dragging of the macula nasally towards the disc with elevation of the papillomacular bundle in both the subjects.OCT revealed presence of subretinal fluid extending towards the optic disc. These findings were similar in both suggesting a familial pattern of presentation.
Conclusion:Diagnosing cases of PPS presents a significant challenge for ophthalmologists.Detailed ophthalmic evaluation is essential, including regular monitoring of choroidal thickness & follow-up to ensure optimal management and outcome.
