Abstract
Eyelids are crucial for maintaining eyeball integrity and are often associated with vision-threatening injuries due to industrialization, faster transportation, and intentional assaults. Proper examination and management of eyelid injuries are essential to prevent deformities like traumatic lid colomboma and lagophthalmos, which compromise ocular surface and threaten vision. In cases of polytrauma, life-threatening injuries take precedence over eyelid injuries. Early and meticulous repair of eyelid injuries is necessary to restore normal structure and function. Secondary repair, if managed properly, can yield good results due to eyelid vascularity. However, undue delay and inappropriate treatment can lead to infection and fibrosis, compromising the repair outcome. Management of all eyelid injuries by ophthalmic surgeons is essential for successful restoration.
