Abstract
Study design: prospective observational study
Purpose: To find incidence of rebleed in patients with traumatic hyphaema attending a tertiary care centre in Kashmir
Methods: Proper history was taken from all patients of traumatic hyphaema. A detailed ocular examination was conducted which included visual acuity testing, slit lamp examination for grading of Hyphaema and posterior segment examination.
Results: age of study population ranged from 11 years to 65 years. In the present study, 57 (71%) patients were males and 23 (29%) patients were females. The common mode of injury in our study was sports in 38 (47.50%) patients followed by occupational in 15 (18.75%) patients. 6 patients developed secondary haemorrhage, representing 7.5% of the total patients with hyphaema.
Conclusion: Most of the patients
with traumatic hyphaema respond well to medical treatment with surgical
intervention being required only in a minority of patients.
