Abstract
AIM: To study the risk group, diverse clinical presentation, course, diagnosis and management of tuberculous uveitis.
STUDY DESIGN: Prospective Descriptive Study of 30 patients were done. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with positive Mantoux test with or without specific lesion in chest radiography, having evidence of active uveitis and with positive contact history or known pulmonary or extra-pulmonary tuberculosis were included. Patients were followed up in 2weeeks, 1 month and 3 months duration.
RESULTS: 40% were in the age group between 35-44 years. Incidence of tuberculous uveitis was higher in patients with exposure to or contact with tuberculosis. 6 patients had a history of recurrence of the disease. Tubercular uveitis presenting as posterior uveitis was the commonest presentation. Rapid improvement in vision
occurred in the first two weeks following treatment.
CONCLUSION: Choroiditis and choroidal tuberculoma are the most common presentation followed by intermediate uveitis.
