Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective Study
PURPOSE: Study complication rate of YAG laser capsulotomy in patients with healed uveitis.
METHODS: Eyes of 102 patients with uveitis, who had YAG capsulotomy between Dec 2020 to April 2022 were evaluated. A minimum inflammation free period of 3 months was pre-requisite for eligibility. Patients with < 9 months follow up, diabetes, pre-existing retinal pathologies like macular hole, optic atrophy and epi-retinal membranes were excluded.
RESULTS: The mean Nd YAG laser summated energy was 86 mJ (range, 40-140 mJ). The mean interval between a cataract surgery and Nd YAG laser was 18 months (range, 4-40 months). The mean follow up period was 14 +/- 10 months
72 eyes achieved a BCVA of 6/6 Snellen. VA remained same in 26 eyes, Reduction in BCVA seen in 4 eyes
CONCLUSION: Pre-existing macular edema & persistent cellular activity in vitreous are main causes of poor visual gain.
