Abstract
PURPOSE: To report a rare case of complicated cataract with non-dilating pupil in a post vitrectomized silicon oil filled eye.
INTRODUCTION: Cataract formation or progression is one of the most frequent complications following vitreoretinal surgery. The high incidence following vitrectomy may relate to oxidative stress and iatrogenic causes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
A 17 years old male presented with complaint of progressive painless DOV in left eye since 6 months. Past records revealed that he had undergone PPV with silicone oil infusion for RD 1 year back. On examination, BCVA was 6/6 in right eye and HMCF in left eye.
RESULTS: Patient underwent left eye synechiolysis with phacoemulsification with hydrophobic PCIOL implantation. At 1 month follow up, his BCVA was 6/60 in left eye.
CONCLUSION: Cataract surgery in vitrectomized eyes is more challenging. Patient counselling and awareness along with surgeon experience can go a long way in getting good visual outcomes.
