Abstract
Purpose:To report a rare case of a patient who developed early capsular block syndrome and to review the current literature regarding the management of this complication post phaco emulsificaton surgery.
Report:A 59-year old patient underwent uneventful cataract surgery(5mm capsulorhexis)by phacoemulsifcation and PCIOL implantation. On 1 week follow-up her BCVA 6/9P and was found to have refractive error of -2.00D X90. Patient didn’t have an preexisting astigmatism. Anterior segment ultra biomicrosopy and AS-OCT confirmed the diagnosis of capsular bag distension syndrome (CBDS).Surgical anterior capsulotomy snipping was done, which released the entrapped fluid content and a week later her UCVA improved to 6/6p.
Conclusion:CBDS is a rare complication usually causing myopic shift. Here we present a very rare case of an early CBDS causing IOL tilt resulting post-op astigmatic surprise. Management of such case with snipping of anterior capsulotomy is a novel technique.
