Abstract
A study on knowledge, attitude and practice of the contact lenses in health care workers in tertiary care centre in Pune
A sample size of 290 was chosen. A structured questionnaire based study and the questionnaire (32 questions) was given to the participants to assess their knowledge, attitude and practice of contact lens use.
Results: Among 290 participants 54% were females and 46 % were males. 13.8 % were contact lens user whereas 86.2 % have never used contact lenses. Majority of the subjects were below 30 years. 15.7 % used lenses for cosmetic purpose and only 4.1 % used the lens for refractive purpose. Only 44.7 % of the participants were equipped with the knowledge and 63% of users know the complications of usage. Significant number of subjects (68%) preferred spectacles over lens. 58.10 % participants have never heard of over wear syndrome. Among contact lens user 28.6% have experienced the eye problems in which itching was the most common symptom followed by dryness.
