Abstract

Background:
Corneal foreign bodies are not so uncommon when it comes to industrial workers. The impact it causes with respect to visual acuity depends on various factors. Unfortunately, many industrial workers are unaware about the seriousness.
Objectives:
The main objective is to identify the predictors of visual outcome in patients with corneal foreign body and its correlation with occupation.
Methodology:
This is a retrospective cohort study on patients with corneal foreign body. Patient’s demographic details with details of occupation, visual acuity was recorded. All patients received comprehensive eye examination and details noted. Foreign body is then removed under aseptic precautions and patient followed up and vision assessed after 1 week.
Conclusion:
Visual outcome in cases of corneal foreign body depends on the size, location and time of presentation of the patient.Workers need to broaden their understanding of personal safety and also the need to sort for medical help.
