Abstract
Study design- prospective interventional study. Aim-Correlation between degree of pentacam nuclear density (PND) and cumulative dissipated energy(CDE) of Phacoemulsification and post-operative outcome in age-related cataract. Method-Pentacam nuclear density and lens opacity classification system(LOCS III) grading of 150 patients with senile cataract were evaluated. Snellens visual acuity were tested. Correlation between PND value and LOCS III nuclear opacity and colour grading score were analysed and based on nuclear density the phacoemulsification energy and parameters were set during surgery which were individual to each patient. Result-There was a linear co-relation between pentacam nuclear density score, total CDE used and endothelial cell loss. Conclusion-A strong correlation was seen between PND and LOCS III grading. By assessing the PND and amount of CDE required pre-op helped reducing the intra op and post op complications and improving the post op visual outcome in patients.
