Abstract
study design: case-control study
purpose: to establish a correlation between DNA methylation with diabetic retinopathy in the Indian population using ELISA
methods:80 patients with type 2 diabetes were divided into those with and without diabetic retinopathy done. After a detailed history, examination, and indirect ophthalmoscopy, 2ml whole blood sample taken, stored at -20 C until assayed, used in the estimation of global methylation level by 5mC-DNA ELISA kit
Results: data was analysed using the latest version of GraphPad Prism software for statistical analysis and a result with a p-value <0.05 is considered statistically significant.
Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between DNA methylation and diabetic retinopathy. our study is the first study being done to compare the levels of DNA methylation in diabetic retinopathy patients using ELISA in the Indian population which is comparatively an easier to do, cheaper, and readily available method in developing countries.
