Abstract
Study design: Randomised experimental study
Purpose: Studying the outcomes of pediatric cataract surgery with and without Triamcinolone assisted vitrectomy.
Methods: The study included pediatric age group patients who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Post-selection cases were divided into study and control groups. Surgical steps were done similarly in both groups with a difference of Triamcinolone usage in the study group.
Result: Post-operatively 7 cases from the study group & 18 from the control group had Posterior Synechiae. IOL deposits were seen in 6 cases from the study group & 16 from the control group. 2 cases from the study group and 10 from the control group had PCO. Re-surgery was done in a few cases in the study group as compared to the control group with no cases of endophthalmitis seen.
Conclusion: The study group presented with less post-operative inflammation when compared to the control group. This was proved with statistical tests with a significant ‘p’ value.
