Abstract

Purpose – to show vasculitis as presenting sign or early sign of endophthalmitis and to not underdiagnose the condition.
Methods – Three patients who underwent cataract surgery on different days in a span of 6 months presented with sudden diminution of vision on day 4±2 and BCVA was 0.48(6/18). All had subtle anterior segment reaction, no hyopyon and limbal congestion. Common fundus examination fundings were retinal haemorrhages, sheathing around vessels and swollen optic nerve. All three received intravitreal vancomycin 1mg+ceftazidime 2.25mg+dexamethasone 4mg with vitreous tap. Two of three patients subsequently required vitrectomy and one recovered with additional intravitreal injection injection.
Results– Biopsy confirmed staphylococcus epidermis in culture. BCVA at 6 weeks of all three was 0.18(6/9). Near complete recovery in anterior segment signs, resolving signs of vasculitis are noted in posterior segment.
