Abstract

Background:Orbital and periorbital neurofibromas may cause progressive, infiltrative, disfiguring tumors of the orbital, facial and temporal areas.
Case Summary:A 32 year old female presented with a boggy swelling and a resultant ptosis in the left upper eyelid. On palpation a bony irregularity could be felt on the left side of the skull and lateral part of the left orbit. Imaging showed bony irregularities. She was taken up for surgery along with a Neurosurgery team. A left frontotemporal craniotomy with en bloc resection of the frontal bone along with the temporoparietal bone was done including the involved parts of the temporalis muscle, lateral and superior orbital rims. Primary closure of the bicoronal flap was done. Histopathology showed features of Diffuse Neurofibroma. A repeat imaging with navigation protocol (0.625mm, zero gantry) was done 6 weeks post surgery. A patient specific implant was designed and placed during a second surgery for cranial and orbital reconstruction.
