Abstract
Purpose: Provide overview of the clinical characteristics, family history, ocular and systemic comorbidities, and treatment of children from families who have familial congenital cataracts.
Methods: Children brought to department of ophthalmology with congenital cataract.It is a retrospective analysis,we encountered a series of cases of bilateral spontaneous absorbed cataracts with central calcification running in a families .After detailed family history evaluation, there was total 10 patients are having bilateral absorbed cataracts, out of which six patients were operated. We document the patient's clinical profile and outcome..
Results: All families' pedigrees point to an autosomal dominant pattern with partial character penetration.
Discussion and conclusion: Genetic testing is required to confirm the diagnosis
