Abstract
PURPOSE:To report a case of small blue cell carcinoma-Neuroblastoma causing proptosis.
METHOD:A 42-year-old female complained of swelling and outward protrusion of LE since 2months.Detailed examination with MRI orbit was done.
RESULTS:Visual acuity in LE was 6/24.Slit Lamp examination revealed infero-temporal fullness with abaxial proptosis, grade 1 RAPD, restriction of movements. Fundus showed grade II disc edema. MRI orbit showed features of neoplasia. Left eye Orbitotomy was done and specimen sent for HPE-S/O Small round blue cell tumors? Retinoblastoma? Neuroblastoma. IHC report showed Neuroblastoma as the confirmed diagnosis. Patient was treated with chemotherapy for the same with excellent survival rates.
CONCLUSION: Differential diagnosis in Small round blue cell tumors remains challenging due to overlapping morphological features. However, advancements in IHC markers, molecular genetics have facilitated more accurate subclassification and tailored therapeutic approach.
