Abstract
Study Design: Prospective & Interventional
Purpose: Outcome of cataract surgery in eyes with coexisting Typical Iris Coloboma.
Methods: All patients of cataract with typical iris coloboma were planned for cataract surgery. Pre and post operative vision assessment was done using Snellen's chart. Ocular examination included Slit lamp, Fundus examination , A- Scan, B scan, Keratometry, Tonometry and callipers for measuring corneal diameter.
Results: Seven patients aged between 25 and 71 years with a mean age of 57.14 years with typical iris colobomas were evaluated for cataract.4 patients had NS2 and 3 patients had NS4.Microphthalmos and microcornea was seen in 3 patients. MSICS was done in 3 patients with IOL implantation. All 3 patients had corneal edema in the 1st week following surgery which resolved. IOP was high in 1 patient.
Conclusion: MSICS in patients with typical iris colobomas is challenging due to the presence of microcornea, microphthalmos and surgical complications.
