Abstract
Study Design: Case report
Purpose :To report a rare case of a child with meningoencephalitis and frosted branch angiitis.
Method: 7 year boy presented to the hospital with an acute episode of high grade fever, altered sensorium, an episode of seizure and vision loss. Nervous system examination was unremarkable. Vision could not be recorded due to the child’s condition. CT scan and MRI of the brain suggested of meningoencephalitis. All viral markers were negative.
The fundus bilaterally suggested of papilledema with retinitis, with vascular sheathing suggestive of frosted branch angiitis. Patient was put on an anti epileptic and low dose oral steroids for the retinitis. On follow up disc edema was seen to be resolving and sheathing of vessels had also reduced.
Result and Conclusion : The patient later on presentation to the ophthalmology department had bilateral 6/18 vision which on treatment recovered to 6/6 with complete resolution of disc edema and reduction in the vessel sheathing.
