Abstract
Purpose: Here we are addressing the various ocular presentations of the Brittle Cornea Syndrome (BCS) in 3 different patients and their responses to a spectrum of treatment modalities. Methods: case report. Results: The first patient with left eye (LE) wound dehiscence, disenclaved iris claw lens, and shallow AC underwent an IOL explant with corneal suturing. The second patient with LE corneal rupture, after an unsuccessful 14% c3f8 injection, underwent lens aspiration with a PCIOL with epikeratoplasty using biosynthetic cornea, which had to be removed along with the DALK due to the severe inflammatory reaction. A third patient with bilateral descemet and posterior stromal detachment is treated with contact lenses for vision rehabilitation.
Conclusion: Our findings indicate that BCS patients often have stronger inflammatory reactions to biosynthetic corneas, favoring human corneal grafts for surgical repairs. Moreover, this study highlights DALK as a viable option for improving vision.
