Abstract
PURPOSE
To assess visual outcomes in pediatric patients with open globe injury.
METHOD
18 pediatric open globe injury patients were included over a period of 1 year at a tertiary eye-care hospital. After taking consent, age, sex, history, cause of injury, detailed ophthalmological evaluation was done. Appropriate management was done and patients were followed up for a period of 6 months and visual outcomes were assessed.
RESULT
The mean age was 8.8±3.64 years. Statistically significant male predominance was noted (p<0.05).Baseline mean BCVA was 2.15±1.47 (LogMAR) which improved to 0.23±0.18 (LogMAR) after treatment. (p<0.05)All patients required surgical management.
CONCLUSION
Pediatric open globe injury was seen majorly between 7 to 11 years with a significant male predominance. These injuries result in significant visual loss but timely and appropriate management resulted in significant improvement in visual acuity in almost all cases with open globe injury.
