Abstract
Study Design – Prospective study.
Purpose – To find out various causative organism causing fungal keratitis, various epidemiological factor of fungal keratitis & visual outcome & various indications after fungal corneal ulcer in western up.
Methods -All patients who have clinically diagnosed to have fungal corneal ulcer, based on history and slit lamp examination were subjected to corneal scraping &material is examined by KOH mounting and culture.
Results- Diagnosis of fungal corneal ulcer was established in 146 cases (39%) out of 376 cases by direct microscopy examination of 10% KOH mounts and 120 cases were found to be culture positive. Corneal opacity was most common complication (68%).
conclusion- Corneal injury by vegetative matter was commonest cause of fungal corneal ulcer in western up & aspergillus was commonest species responsible for it. Koh mount is simple method for diagnosis.
