Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Observational study. PURPOSE : To study the clinical profile of isolated lateral rectus palsy in adult population. METHODS : 20 patients who presented at our hospital with isolated lateral rectus palsy aged above 20 years, were included in this study. Demographic details such as age, sex were noted, detailed history was taken regarding comorbidities, previous trauma, infections. Examination included extraocular motions, refractive error calculation, anterior, posterior segment evaluation, deviation measured, diplopia charting, radiological investigations were performed on all patients and compared. RESULTS : The average age at presentation was 50 years. Females were found to be affected more than males. Diabetes was found to be the commonest etiology for isolated abducent nerve palsy , followed by trauma, tuberculosis and hypertension. CONCLUSION : The study concluded that vascular pathology was found to be the commonest cause for isolated 6th nerve palsy.
