Abstract
Study Design:This was a prospective study done between July 2023 to Dec 2023 ,including the population aged 6-15 years attending for ocular trauma.
Purpose:Our aim was to identify epidemiological details regarding ocular trauma like the commonest cause,type of injury,sex,age group.
Methods:Detailed history were taken and detailed opthalmological examination were done with all patient included in the study including anterior segment and posterior segments.
Results:Out of all 200 children,it was found that 6-10 years age group(65%) were more common than 11-15.Majority of patients were males(71%) .The most common type of injury occured while playing followed by corneal perforation and firework injuries during festivals .Closed globe injuries(56%) were common and no differences found between urban and rural population.53% of patients reported within 24hrs of injury.
Conclusion: Sports related injuries were common cause .Little awareness can prevent irreversible blindness in pediatric age.
