Abstract
Study Design-Descriptive study
Purpose-To study the association between parental smoking and Myopia
Methods- A literature search with keywords "Myopia"OR "Short Sightedness" OR "Near Sightedness" OR "Childhood refraction"OR "Ametropia" AND "Parental smoking" OR "Materanal Smoking" OR " Paternal smoking" OR "Passive Smoking" OR "Smoking" OR "Smoke" was performed.
The studies fulfilling the inclusion criteria were included and analysed.
Results- Literature is divided on results on casual association between parental smoking and childhood myopia with some studies showing casual association and some showing negative association with myopic and prediction for hyperopia in these children.
Conclusion: Most published evidence consists of cross-sectional studies. Longitudinal studies with adjustment of confounders could help refine results.
