Abstract
Aim: To assess the quality of life in mono ocular anophthalmic patients using prosthetic eyes in comparison to the healthy control group.
Methods: Patients attending the prosthetic eye clinic over a period of 2 months were asked to fill the WHO QoL BREFsurvey in Tamil. The accompanying person was asked to fill the survey for the control group.
Results: 66 patients were included in the prosthetic eye group and 54 patients in the non prosthetic group. There was no statistically significant difference in the two groups as regards domain 2,3 and 4. However statistically significant difference was seen in domain 1 between the two groups with anophthalmic patients having a higher score
Conclusion: The anophthalmic patients wearing an ocular prosthesis have significant improvement in psychosocial awareness after rehabilitation. This results in a better quality of life perception.
