Abstract
Purpose: To study long term clinical outcome of Bilateral Accelerated Corneal Collagen Cross-linking
(ACXL) procedure in progressive keratoconus in pediatric population at 2 years follow up
Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional study design involving 39 patients (78 eyes) with pediatric
keratoconus (<18years) treated with epi-off ACXL. Primary outcomes Steep K and
Uncorrected visual acuity, while secondary outcomes were Thinnest corneal thickness
& Distance corrected visual acuity
Results: 85% patients showed improvement in DCVA, 74% showed improvement in Steep K values, 64% showed
improvement in Average k & 73% showed flattening in pachymetry values at last follow up.
Conclusion: ACXL is an effective, safe and acceptable procedure due to shorter operative time Steep
K is the most essential parameter Bilateral simultaneous ACXL has an advantage because children
are too young to cooperate and overcome temporary side effects of unilateral CXL.
