Abstract
Purpose: This study examines surgical outcomes for Herpes Simplex Viral (HSV) keratitis. Methods: Retrospective analysis of records from January 2021 to December 2023, 390 out of 920 patients underwent surgery. The primary goal was stabilizing the ocular surface. Results: Patients averaged 58.81 years, with 2.33 weeks of pre-surgery medical management. Main reasons for surgery were perforated corneal ulcer (29.9%) and persistent epithelial defect (21.1%). Most cases were stromal necrotizing keratitis (63.4%). Common interventions included permanent tarsorrhaphy (23.2%) and tissue adhesive with bandage contact lens (23.2%). 72.2% achieved ocular surface stability, and mean visual acuity improved from hand motion to 6/60. Conclusion: Less invasive surgeries like tissue adhesive with bandage contact lens and tarsorrhaphy showed promise in stabilizing the ocular surface and enhancing visual acuity, emphasizing the importance of timely and personalized surgical interventions.
