Abstract
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common complication of T2DM and a leading cause of vision loss globally. This meta-analysis aims to synthesize existing evidence on DR awareness among individuals with T2DM. A systematic search of electronic databases yielded a total of X studies meeting the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis revealed a wide variation in DR awareness levels across studies, with an overall pooled estimate of awareness among T2DM patients being X%.Additionally, meta-regression analyses were performed to examine the impact of various factors on DR awareness. The findings highlight the importance of targeted interventions to improve DR awareness among individuals with T2DM, particularly in regions with lower awareness rates. Recommendations are provided for healthcare practitioners, policymakers, and public health authorities to enhance DR education and promote regular eye screenings among T2DM patients, thereby reducing the burden of DR-related vision loss.
