Abstract
PURPOSE- To evaluate efficiency of paired incision in controlling corneal astigmatism in phacoemulsifiction surgery and assess its complications
METHODS- A minimum number of 56 cases of cataract surgery presenting in a period of 1 year were taken. A keratometry difference between 1 D to 3 D were included. Patients underwent phacoemulsification surgery where a paired incision was made on the steeper axis. A follow up at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months was done and residual astigmatism was measured.
RESULTS- Corneal astigmatism was corrected post phacoemulsification surgery with paired incision and a significant difference was observed between pre and post operative corneal astigmatism.
CONCLUSION-A simple paired incision opposite to the main incision on the steeper axis of cornea can correct corneal astigmatism without any extra skill or instrumentation.
