Abstract
Immediate post vitrectomy complications such as post operative vitreous cavity hemorrhage, endophthalmitis reactivation debris, post operative retinal breaks are quite common. Fluid air/gas exchange in the OPD is a very convenient technique to tackle above complications. Positioning patient on slit lamp, under aseptic precautions we inject a 26G needle from pars plana route from the dependant part of the eye.As the fluid gets drained from the inferior drainage needle, air/gas replaces the fluid as the air/gas is gradually injected from the other side in a span of few seconds. It rests the need of vitreous lavage in cases such as vitreous cavity hemorrhage developed post PDR surgery or for drainage of endophthalmitis reactivation debris. It can also be used to tamponade superior RDs in case of superior post operative retinal breaks. It is a convenient, cost effective, less time consuming, minimally invasive OPD procedure.
