Abstract
Objectives/ Purpose:Majority of ocular surgeries are performed these days under peribulbar block. In peribulbar block a total of 5-10 ml of block is injected . Peribulbar block is associated with a number of complications like conjunctival chemosis and hemorrhage, lid edema. Thus an alternate technique of subtenons block through inferonasal conjunctival peritomy and tenotomy with lesser volume of 3 ml was developed as an alternative to conventional peribulbar block for better anaesthesia and akinesia. Material & method:A total of 54 patients and 108 eyes planned for intraocular surgeries were enrolled for the study. One eye was operated under peribulbar anesthesia and the other eye under subtenons anaesthesia. Anaesthesia, akinesia, complications, pain associated with both block techniques were assessed and compared. Results:Subtenons block was better compared to conventional peribulbar block in terms of akinesia, anaesthesia, complications and pain during block administration.
