Abstract
Study Design: Case-control observational study
Purpose:To determine the association between hypertension and triglyceride-glucose index in newly diagnosed BRVO patients.
Methods:This is hospital based observational study done in 66 eyes of 55 individuals with BRVO and a control group comprising 60 healthy volunteers matched for age and gender were submitted to ophthalmological examination, blood pressure monitoring, various blood and haematological parameters were done.
Results:The mean age was 60.4years for BRVO group and 61.2years for control group.Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring identified 47 hypertensive,4 normotensive and 4 white-coat hypertensive. In ROC analysis TyG index had an area under the curve of 0.659 and a TyG index higher than 8.47 predicted BRVO with 81% senstivity and 68% specificity.
Conclusion:This study establishes a significant association between hypertension and elevated TyG index in BRVOpatients. HTN and TyG index could serve as predictive tool for BRVO.
