Abstract
This is a prospective single blind randomised controlled trial study conducted at tertiary care hospital. The purpose of the study is to find out the pattern of diurnal IOP variation in patients with POAG treated with Latanoprost (0.005%) & Timolol maleate (0.5%). A total sample size of 50 patients, aged >18 yr with POAG attending the OPD was taken & further divided into two groups of 25 each. Patients were assessed for IOPs measurement, VA & fundus evaluation. IOPs assessment done with GAT in 4 AM, 12 PM & 8 PM. They were randomised to the appropriate medications either Timolol, 1 drop BD or Latanoprost 1 drop OD daily. In all, 44 completed study. After 6 month of chronic dosing, Latanoprost group exhibited a trend to a greater diurnal IOP reduction in morning. Latanoprost demonstrated a narrower range of diurnal IOP than Timolol. Safety was similar between group's, except there was more conjunctival hyperaemia with latanoprost than timolol.
