Abstract
Study Design: A Retrospective Study
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the significance of bleb massage in patients who underwent MMC trabeculectomy, focusing on the early intraocular pressure reduction and bleb morphology.
Methods: A total of 53 patients who had undergone MMC trabeculectomy by the same surgeon within the past 1 year were included in this study. The data of the patients were analysed, including records of bleb massage application, follow-up visits, and documentation of any adverse events or complications related to the procedure.
Results: The analysis revealed that 41.5%(22) and 71.69%(38) out of 53 patients required bleb massage before 1 week and after 2 weeks respectively. Bleb failure was seen in 18.86%(10) out of 53 patients
Conclusion: Bleb massage is a relatively safe and well-tolerated technique in the post-trabeculectomy care of glaucoma patients. It plays a valuable role in preventing IOP spikes and maintaining a well functioning bleb
