Abstract
Study Design: Prospective Observational Study
Purpose: Comparing MMC intra-Tenon injection vs. sponge application in trabeculectomy.
Methods: We followed 122 glaucoma patients ( primary+ secondary) over 2 years who received MMC in trabeculectomy surgery in a tertiary care centre.
Exclusion criteria were – Patients <18 yrs of age , NO PL , Prev glaucoma surgery ,
Patients were randomized to application of MMC by intra-Tenon or sponge.
Outcome was measured in terms of postoperative IOP , visual acuity bleb morphology &complications
Results: Total 122 eyes were studied ( MMC with sponge -61, MMC with Intra-Tenon -61 ) mean IOP was lower in Intratenon group , and bleb related complications were more in sponge group.
Chances of failure of IOP control were more in young patients and fornix based surgeries.
Conclusion: Intra-Tenon MMC appears more effective and safer than sponge in trabeculectomy.
