Abstract
Purpose: To determine neuro-ophthalmic findings in patients with head trauma
Materials and methods: A prospective observational study of 25 patients of more than 10 years having a definite history of head trauma with neuro-ophthalmic manifestations attending ophthalmology OPD within 3 months were selected. The focus was to determine neuro-ophthalmic deficits by complete ophthalmic evaluation and imaging.
Result: Data was collected from 19 males and 6 females. The most common cause of head trauma was motor vehicle accidents followed by blunt trauma. Afferent pathway defect was the most common finding followed by third and sixth nerve palsy.
Conclusion: Head trauma causes many neuro-ophthalmic manifestations. Afferent and Efferent pathways are vulnerable to traumatic injury. Loss of consciousness may not be a reliable predictor for specific neuro-ophthalmic outcomes but neuroimaging abnormality signifies neurodeficit.
