Abstract
Objective:To report a case of orbital soft fibrous tumor misdiagnosed as schwannoma.
Case:A 51-year-old female patient presented with insidious and gradually progressive abaxial proptosis of left eye for past 3 months associated with visual impairment, redness and watering.Patient had similar episode 2 year back for which she underwent excision biopsy which implicated schwannoma. The BCVA in left eye was hand movement with inaccurate projection of rays and on examination abaxial proptosis with swollen and retracted lower lid, restricted extraocular movement in all gaze, conjunctival congestion with chemosis, fixed mid-dilated pupil with posterior synechiae and disc edema with chorioretinal folds at macula noted.Considering it as a case of recurrent schwannoma,CE-MRI was done which ruled out intracranial extension.Patient then planned for lid sparing orbital exenteration and the sample was sent for pathological evaluations which suggested features of Solitary Fibrous Tumor,FNCLCC grade 1.
