Abstract
Purpose- Ocular involvement in dengue can be an innocuous subconjunctival haemorrhage or rarely as a vision threatening panophthalmitis.
Method- We present a case of panophthalmitis after 5 days of dengue associated fever. Patient presented with loss of vision in left eye with periorbital swelling. On examination, no light perception, proptosis, lid edema, chemosis, hazy cornea with no visible anterior chamber and posterior segment details were seen.
Results- Frill evisceration was done. Scleral and uveal biopsy showed necrotizing inflammation consistent with panophthalmitis. Orbital implant was planned as a secondary procedure.
Conclusion- Early diagnosis of panophthalmitis and timely intervention can prevent the need for evisceration and thus globe salvage.
