Abstract
Purpose
To report a rare case of conjunctival malignant melanoma, detailing its clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, treatment approach, and outcomes.
Material/ methods
45year-old female came with c/o of a brownish pigmented lesion in the left eye since childhood, which has increased in size since one year. A brownish lesion 1.5×0.5cm in the lower palpebral and forniceal conjunctiva 3mm from the lower limbus was noted on examination. AS-OCT was done which showed involvement of conjunctival epithelium only.
Results
Excision biopsy of the lesion was done and sent for histopathological testing which was reported as a malignant melanoma-epitheloid variant. PET-CT reported no active lesion in the left orbit or the whole body. Wide excision of the lesion 1×0.5×0.3 with the no-touch technique was done, which reported, that all the margins were free of tumor. Now, the patient is on mitomycin C as adjuvant therapy with no local recurrence at 6 months follow-up.
