Abstract
Background:
Combat ocular trauma has continued to increase in frequency with evolution of modern warfare. We report a case of ocular splinter injury in CI ops scenario.
Case report:
A 25 years old serving soldier, referred from a remote CI Ops area to our centre with a/h/o ocular trauma while firing. On evaluation there was a full thickness sclera tear with splinter in situ. He underwent wound exploration, splinter removal and primary repair under GA.
Conclusion:
Unlike civil scenarios, individuals in CI Ops area are more prone for ocular injury by high projectile objects. Early referral and timely management by ophthalmologist reduces the risk of morbidity and aids in early visual recovery.
