Abstract
Purpose: To describe demographic and clinical features of post typhoid retinitis.
Study design and methods: A prospective observational study was done. Detailed history of typhoid fever followed by complete ocular examination was done with relevant blood investigations. Standard treatment with oral doxycycline and steroids was given for 6weeks and final follow up was done at around 3months.
Results:16eyes of 10patients were included. Bilateral involvement was noted in 6patients.Anterior segment involvement was noted in 3patients.Presenting vision was Cf 1meter or worse in 90% eyes. Final visual acuity was found to be good in 3eyes(>6/12), moderate in 11 eyes(6/18-6/60) and poor in 2eyes(6/60).4eyes had worsening of lesions, newer lesions, infective emboli along arterioles up to 2weeks even after starting oral treatment and then showed resolution over 2months.
Conclusion: Post typhoid retinitis seems to follow an aggressive course with possibility of worse visual outcomes.

FP0407 : Post typhoid retinitis: An aggressive form of epidemic retinitis.
