Abstract
Study design: Prospective comparative study
Purpose: To compare the central corneal thickness (CCT) & intraocular pressure(IOP) in patients with pseudoexfoliation(PXF) and healthy individuals
Methods: This study was conducted on 100 eyes of patients with PXF and 100 eyes of patients without PXF. Patients with history of ocular injury, surgery, corneal disorder and preexisting glaucoma were excluded. Best corrected visual acuity was recorded using snellen chart. A detailed anterior & posterior segment evaluation was done. IOP was recorded using Goldmann applanation tonometer and CCT measured by ultrasonic pachymetry. All results were tabulated & statistically analyzed
Results: CCT was thinner and IOP was higher in patients with PXF compared to healthy individuals and was clinically significant with p value <0.05.
Conclusion: The study showed that cornea is thinner in patients with PXF which can give a false low IOP reading. Therefore CCT should be done in all patients with PXF.
