Abstract
STUDY DESIGN-Observational, Cross sectional study
AIM-To study the correlations of Vitamin D levels and severity of Dry eye disease.
METHOD-All dry eye diagnosed patients of 20-50 years were taken up for the study for a period of one year. M:F was 2:3,BCVA, Slit lamp OSDI score calculated from questionnare and were catagorised as mild moderate severe, TFBUT, Schirmers test and Vitamin D(serum 25(OH)D) levels was done and levels <20mg/dl were considered low. thyroid disorders, MGD, contact lens users, patients on anticholinergics, anti
histaminics, antipsychotics ,diuretics and Ocular surgery were excluded from the study
RESULTS-the study was done on 100 patients and the mean value of vit D were 12 which was statistically significant(P<0.05)decrease in vitamin D levels was found amongst 40%
of total dry eye disease participants.
CONCLUSION-The significant decrease in vitamin D levels suggests that low vitamin D levels is
associated with dry eye disease.
