Abstract
Study Design: Prospective study.
Purpose: To study the topical steroid effect on IOP in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
Methods: This study included 80eyes with cataract of age group 40-80 years with preoperative normal IOP. Patients with family history of Glaucoma, High Myopia, Diabetes, Hypertension, Complicated Cataract were excluded.All patients underwent uneventful cataract surgery. Topical steroid was administered after cataract surgery for 6 weeks in tapering doses. IOP measurement done on postoperative day 3,7&40. All of them were followed up till 6 weeks.
Results: After 6weeks of follow up raised IOP was seen in 20eyes[25%]. 60[65%],17[30%],3[5%] patients were Low,Intermediate&High steroid responders. P value < 0.05 was considered as significant.
Conclusion: At the end of 6weeks of steroid therapy 25% of patients had raised IOP. Their IOP returned to baseline after discontinuation of topical steroids within 3weeks.
