Abstract

The purpose of this case series is to highlight the management of cases of Ocular Surface Squamous
Neoplasia(OSSN) that do not respond to topical therapy.
8 Patients (11 eyes ) who had not shown any adequate reduction in size or improvement in ocular surface on topical mitomycin C/ 5 FU or Interferon alpha 2b were subjected to partial/total surgical excision of their lesions with a histopathological evaluation postoperatively. Histopathological examination included ki67 values which denote the level of mitotic activity.
Results: On histopathological analysis along with confirmation of the diagnosis of OSSN the ki67 values of each of these 11 samples were abnormally high.
Conclusions: Our patients not only required surgical excision for some ocular relief, but they failed to respond at all to any antimitotic therapy topically. Ki-67 may be used as a marker for non responsive cases and these patients can be subjected to alternative therapy subsequently.
