Abstract
Study Design : Prospective Observational Cohort Study
Purpose: To study the difference of SIA between sclerocorneal tunnels made with crescent versus keratome, so that in resource limited institution keratome can be used for tunnel construction.
Methods:60 patients were enrolled in this study, divided into two groups each comprising 30 patients. One group underwent MSICS with a sclerocorneal tunnel constructed using a crescent knife, while the other group underwent MSICS with a sclerocorneal tunnel constructed using a keratome. Follow-up assessments were conducted after one month to determine which method lead to a lower SIA. Pre-op and post-op keratometry were performed after one month.
Results :The mean astigmatism at one month post-op was 0.7 ± 0.3 in the first group and 0.9 ± 0.4 in the second group.
Conclusion: This study reveals that there is no significant difference in the mean SIA in both types of sclerocorneal tunnel construction techniques .
Keywords: SIA, MSICS.
